Mr Morris, who turns 89 next month, suffered a stroke at his Bolwarra home last Friday.
His wife Colleen was with him at the time.
An ambulance was called and he was taken to Maitland Hospital then transferred to the John Hunter Hospital stroke unit.
Mr Morris’ daughter Karen Morris of Minmi said there was nothing that would keep her father down.
“Physically, dad is fit and well and able to do all things for himself,” she said.
“But the stroke did affect his speech and he will soon be moved out of the stroke ward and into a private hospital where he will receive speech therapy.”
Ms Morris said hospital staff had described Mr Morris as amazing.
“Dad knows what is happening and he is doing a lot better,” she said.
“The main thing now is for him to rest, which is why we are requesting no visitors at this time.
“Dad would love to see and talk to everyone he knows, but it is important that he heals in these early days and regains [his speech].
“It will be more sustaining and beneficial for him in his recovery.”
Mr Morris has three daughters and a son and a big family of grandchildren.
