Ms Kuku stood in front of last night’s Maitland City Council meeting and spoke about her experiences since moving to Metford 15 years ago.
During that time, the aged care nurse has been physically attacked in her home and the victim of arson, theft and harassment.
She said she was not happy about proposed changes to the Racial Discrimination Act which would remove Section 18c, the clause that makes it illegal to publicly offend, insult or intimidate a person or group based on race.
The incidents have been so bad and frequent against Ms Kuku that she has considered returning to war-torn Sudan, but her children would not go with her.
“We came from a hard life,” she said.
“It is a good place here, but we don’t need racism.”
