The late-night street festival planned to fill Swan Street with the historic area’s best products and food creations. Businesses planned to stay open late and families were invited to take part in the kids’ activities, street entertainment and wander through Morpeth Museum free of charge.
But heavy rain fell over the region on Saturday afternoon, prompting minor flood warnings for parts of the Paterson and Lower Hunter areas. Interim Morpeth Business Community coordinator Andrew Mason said the decision was made to reschedule Morpeth Comes Alive – but many traders stayed open anyway.

“We had a great crowd turn up,” he said.
“We knew we’d get a lot of support, but we didn’t think so many would turn out with the weather.
“It shows people want to support this, they want to support what Morpeth is doing.”
Mr Mason said organisers would soon announce a new date for the festival.
