A man has been charged with possession of drugs and a firearm after police stopped his vehicle at Maitland on Wednesday night.

Police were patrolling Elgin Street about 11.40pm when they noticed a vehicle doing a U-turn at the end of the street.
Officers pulled the vehicle over and spoke with the 30-year-old male driver and his female passenger.
A search of the vehicle allegedly uncovered a firearm, three mobile phones and drug paraphernalia including electronic scales.
Officers then searched the driver and allegedly found prohibited drugs.
The man was arrested and taken Maitland Police Station where he was charged with possessing a firearm, drug possession and drug supply.
He was refused bail and will appear in Maitland Local Court on Thursday.
