Police said the man cut the tag on a pair of shorts worth $100 and tied the $150 jumper around his waist before walking out of David Jones without paying on Thursday evening.
He was described to police as a male aged between 16 and 20, solid build with light brown hair. At the time he was wearing an NY cap, grey hoodie with yellow writing, black shorts, black socks and white slip on shoes.
Also at Green Hills on Thursday night, someone stole three speakers worth $150 each from JB Hifi sometime between 7 and 9pm.
The person removed the packaging and concealed the items before leaving the store.
Police are investigating.
