But when her friend and hairdresser Laura Johnson approached her to help put together a tune for this year’s Mulletfest she was willing to give it a go.
Bowtell, her husband Damon Morton and Johnson have written Party in the Back, which will be launched in time for the Chelmsford Hotel event on February 23.
Chris Williams sang the lead vocals for the track, with Bowtell and Johnson both helping out on backing vocals and an all star band doing the rest. Simon Johnson of Hillbilly Hut produced the song.
When asked what sort of song it was, Johnson and Bowtell both described it as “a country, pub rock anthem”.
“We wanted to have something that when you hear it between events it reminds you how much fun you had,” Johnson said.
“It’s lots of fun, it has this incredible energy and it’s a bit of an earworm,” Bowtell said.
“It’s very much on theme.”
The song will be available on iTunes. All profits will go to the Mark Hughes Foundation, which Mulletfest is supporting this year.
In other Mulletfest news, last year’s winner of the everyday mullet category Denman’s Shane “Shag” Hanrahan has been confirmed as a judge at the second annual event.
