Volunteers at the museum were overjoyed to welcome a large model of the Sophia Jane Paddle Steamer earlier this month.
The steamer model is on loan from the Newcastle Maritime Museum, who are currently non-operational.
Since its arrival in the Maitland area, the Sophia Jane model has been sitting centre stage in the main room of the museum on display for all local history buffs.
According to Morpeth Museum's Alan Todd, it has a very important tale to tell about the heritage of this region.
"In addition to the model and to complement it, the museum has the original bell and a sheave block from the original Sophia Jane ship," he said.
"They are part of our permanent collection."
The museum is located at 123 Swan Street, Morpeth, and open Thursday to Sunday from 11am to 2pm.
General admission for adults is $2 per person and there is no cost for children to visit.
