Port Stephens Hunter police are warning residents in Aberglasslyn, Telarah and surrounding suburbs about a tradie scam that has been circulating in the area.

Police said the scammers have been posing as tradespeople despite having no qualifications and in turn, have been performing sub-standard work.
"These people are taking payment without completing the work and are not issuing legitimate invoices/receipts to their customers," Port Stephens Hunter police said in a statement on their Facebook page.
Police are urging residents to be vigilant and encourage people to contact Maitland Police or Crime Stoppers if anyone approaches them wanting to perform work on their house that has not been requested and is not warranted.
Police also encourage residents to take down details from any vehicles that these people may be sighted with.
