Australian Red Cross Lifeblood needs more than 2100 residents across the Hunter to donate plasma every month, and the Maitland Donor Centre hopes to achieve at least 55 of those donations in just one day.
Blood Service spokesperson Brian Bruce said the party would see more than 10 hours of plasma donations, with the centre opening for extended hours from 9am to 7.30pm on Thursday.

"The current record for the most plasma donations in one day in Maitland is 42 donations," he said.
"We'd love to see that smashed."
The plasma party will include blood drop cakes and other themed snacks as staff get into the party spirit.
Mr Bruce said the demand for plasma is growing rapidly each year.
"Plasma can be used in 18 different ways, and with demand for this powerful component of blood growing every year, donations are always needed," he said.
"Each donation helps treat people suffering serious burns or cancer, protects people with brain or blood disorders, and protects kids against chicken pox."
The whole appointment takes 1.5 hours, and you can donate as often as every two weeks.
Bruce said donating plasma is a lot like giving blood.
"Donating plasma is simple. Just sit back and relax on a comfy couch for 45 minutes while you donate," he said.
Continuous improvements in the detection of some health conditions, an aging population and the high standard of care in Australia are thought to be behind Australia's rapid growth in plasma demand.
