Karri McPherson was announced the winner of the annual Brenda Clouten Memorial Travelling Scholarships for Young Achievers in the Visual Arts with Brontë Naylor receiving the first and Liz O'Brien the second runner up position.
The prestigious Brenda Clouten Memorial Travelling Scholarship continues to play an important role in the professional development of the region's young artists and wouldn't be possible without scholarship patrons, Vicki and Bruce Woods.
"We congratulate all finalists for this strong exhibition and extend our hearty applause to the three talented recipients of the scholarship award," Gallery director Gerry Bobsien said.
"The competition was judged by artist Alex Seton and our patron Vicki Woods who generously donated additional prize money to accommodate a third prize to this year's exhibition.'
Six new exhibitions are also now open featuring over 90 artists including renowned Australians alongside emerging Hunter based talent.
"Our Spring season exhibitions have something for everyone," Ms Bobsien added
"We get to reacquaint ourselves with some of the characters that live within the walls here at MRAG through our portrait show 'Hello Again' or get inside the personal collection of two passionate art collectors.
'Collectors Gordon Elliott and Michael Eyes have generously offered MRAG access to curate an exhibition specifically for Maitland from their entire art collection of over 100 artworks by celebrated Australian artists including James Gleeson, Euan Macleod, John Coburn, Maitland's own Todd Fuller and many more."
