The oldest regional show in Australia will be celebrating the 160th milestone with a special focus on vintage and antique Maitland, as well as all the usual rides, amusements, and agricultural and horticultural competitions.
Brett Gleeson, Maitland Showground manager, said next year's show will be pretty spectacular.
"This year's a special year for us because it's our 160th show," he said.
In the news:
"We will have the rodeo featuring on Friday night, and on Saturday night we will have Hot Wheels."
A special beer is being brewed for the event, called the Maitland Show 160, which will be sold at the bar.
Mr Gleeson said the show will have plenty of agricultural and horticultural competitions with everything from cattle, goats, donkeys, horses, dogs and poultry to art, photography, homecraft, wooshop and produce.
"The foundation of what the show is about is agriculture and horticulture," he said.
The 2022 show will have all the regular amusements like rides and showbags, and there will be a special Central Districts exhibition from the 2021 Sydney Royal in the McDonald Pavilion.
"The Central Districts is made up of all the shows in the Hunter and New England area, and they put together this huge display," Mr Gleeson said.
Flashback:
"I was able to secure that, so people should come and see it in the McDonald Pavilion."
Mr Gleeson said this year's show theme is "celebrating our resilient community", to celebrate the resilience the Maitland community has shown in the past couple of years.
The Maitland Show had to be cancelled in 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic, but went ahead in 2020 just before the lockdown.
This year, the NSW Royal Agricultural Society has changed the name of the showgirl competition to the Sydney Royal AgShows NSW Young Woman Competition.
Applications for the Maitland Show Young Woman 2022 will open in January, just as the 2020 Maitland Showgirl, Hayley Johns, gears up to compete in the zone final in Gulgong.
The Maitland Show is the oldest regional show in Australia, only beaten by the Sydney Royal and Hobart Royal.
