The commuter car park and the taxi zone will be improved, there will be a new drop off and pick up area, and bicycle facilities will be added.
Transport for NSW is organising the project and design elements. The department will notify Maitland MP Robyn Parker when it has a timeframe for the work to be completed.
The total cost of the project won’t be known until it goes out to tender.
The money is part of the $770 million transport access program designed to deliver modern, accessible, integrated and secure transport infrastructure where it is needed most.
Ms Parker said the money would provide a necessary upgrade to make the station more user friendly.
“This latest investment focuses on lifting the standard of transport interchanges across the entire transport network, particularly in areas which were ignored by the previous Labor government for so long,” Ms Parker said.
“I welcome this investment in the local community.”
