Jennifer Eleanor Martin, 49, of Cagney Road, Rutherford, pleaded guilty to possessing 3.48g of cannabis.
The court was told Martin was using the drug to deal with severe pain following injuries she received when her motor scooter was hit by a car 12 months ago.
Her serious injuries included head injuries and she had been on various prescribed medications, trying to kill the pain, the court was told.
But Martin had suffered some adverse side effects.
She was no longer able to work and at one stage she became homeless, the court heard.
Police papers tendered to the court said Martin was a passenger in a Mitsubishi Triton seen leaving a house, with herself and the driver displaying “behaviour very similar to that of people purchasing drugs”.
When the car was stopped, Martin told police she had a bag of cannabis, which was later found to weigh 3.48g.
After hearing the evidence, Magistrate John Chicken told Martin: “You got the cannabis after being placed on a good behaviour bond on December 17.
“Then a month later, you wrote to a magistrate saying you were no longer going to self medicate with cannabis.”
Bail for Martin was continued and the matter was stood over for consideration by the Magistrate on April 7.
