The funding was announced as part of the 2017 NSW Government Budget to increase capacity at schools across the state.
The exact amount and scope of works has not yet been announced. A spokesperson for Parliamentary Secretary for the Hunter Scot MacDonald said the nature of the upgrades would be announced by the Department of Education “in coming months”.
Rutherford Public was the only Maitland school included in the funding announcement, but one or more other Maitland public schools will also receive funding.
Mr MacDonald said the upgrade projects would play a vital role in providing school kids with a top-quality education.
“These new schools and upgrades will help provide the facilities our community needs and deserves,” Mr MacDonald said.
Education Minister Rob Stokes said NSW public schools were expected to enrol an additional 164,000 students by 2031.
“These projects will ensure students and staff have the resources they need to succeed in the 21st century,” Mr Stokes said.
