Local Bundjalung artist John Robinson has created the Rainbow Serpent piece. The artwork tells the story of the traditional owners of the land the centre is situated on, the Wonnarua People.
The piece also ties into the theme of this year’s Reconciliation Week – Don’t Keep History a Mystery.
The artwork will be installed near Target on level one. It will be the third artwork to be installed at the centre as part of the $414 million redevelopment.
Hunter artist Ellie Hannon created an 11 metre long artwork which depicted a modern interpretation of the Hunter River while another floral mural was installed in the new dining precinct in March.
