Hoyts Cinema Green Hills is set to open this Saturday – earlier than the planned opening of next Thursday.
It has certainly been all hands on deck to get the seven screen, 815 seat cinema ready for eager movie-goers.
“Our staff who have been walking through the shopping centre wearing the Hoyts logo keep getting stopped and asked ‘when’s the cinema opening?’” Hoyts CEO Damian Keogh said.
“There’s certainly been a lot of interest.”
And Mr Keogh is confident they won’t be disappointed, saying that “patrons will definitely see a different cinema experience”.
The Green Hills cinema includes two 40-seat Lux theatres – which have a dedicated bar and lounge where attendees can choose from a wide array of food and drinks to have delivered to their seats during the movie. The menu has been designed by celebrity chef Manu Feildel.
It’s a far cry from the standard popcorn and drink of days past.
The cinema also includes two Xstremescreens – wider screens with surround sound, as well as three regular screens.
But the cheaper options still share some of the same comforts as the Lux theatre. Every seat in the whole cinema is a powered recliner, and movie-goers can also enjoy a walk-through candy bar, a cafe and bar, from which they can take food and drinks into the theatres.
Mr Keogh said the powered recliners and expanded food options were additions Hoyts made a few years ago to boost the company’s offering.
He said with greater competition from home entertainment, cinemas had to make it more worthwhile for people to leave the house in order to watch a movie.
“It’s important that cinemas continue to evolve and challenge themselves to provide a great customer experience,” he said.
“The cinema experience is growing up a little bit.
“We want to make sure the people who do leave their home have a great movie and also a great experience.”
Hoyts has employed about 60 locals to service the cinema, while manager Jarrod Mercer has come to Green Hills from the other Hunter Hoyts at Charlestown.
Mr Keogh said the company decided to set up shop at Green Hills due to the area’s growing population and the impressive $414 million Stockland revelopment.
