This year Santa will be in his very own Aussie backyard at The Levee, and sharing the Christmas cheer with free photos from 3pm to 7pm every Friday, and from 10am to 2pm every Saturday and Sunday.
Council’s marketing and communications coordinator Matt vanderWall said this year’s Aussie Christmas theme would be bringing extra “festive vibes”.
“There’s going to be great decorations, props and an Australian Christmas themed art installation, so I really encourage locals to come and check it out,” he said.
“Not only can kids meet Santa and share with him all the things they are hoping to receive this Christmas, they can also take time to decorate some gingerbread in the shape of Australian fauna.
“It’s about bringing people into the area, and doing something a bit different.”
Families that visit Santa in his backyard will have the free photo emailed to them.
In addition, artist Trevor Dickinson will be painting an Australian Christmas themed ute.
The ute art installation will feature a range of quintessentially Australian favourites including prawns on the barbecue, a hills hoist, and other summer Christmas themes. Mr Dickinson said the colorful ute, which was donated to council, would be on display for six weeks.
“I’ve tried to make one side very Maitland, and the other side about holidaying. I’m planning to have it finished by Friday,” he said.
