The well-known member of the Maitland community said she was initially signed up for the dancing extravaganza without her knowledge but happy to join the fun.
"I'd been on the committee for Maitland Relay for Life for nine years," she said.
"I decided to have a break this year, and then they rang me back and asked if I would be part of the Stars of the Hunter Valley.
"They knew I would say yes, and I don't mind. It will be good fun."
On Saturday, Ms Cavanagh will host her first fundraiser at The Pourhouse in High Street, Maitland. The fundraiser will be part of the pub's Psychedelic Party.
"The Pourhouse will be making a special cocktail in keeping with my role at the cinema," Ms Cavanagh said.
Other fundraising activities include a raffle, a Stars at the Vineyard event on May 4 which is a wine tour and lunch.
All participants are aiming to raise $3000.
Speaking on her motivation, Ms Cavanagh said she first became involved with the Cancer Council after one of her colleagues was diagnosed with cancer.
"It was very quick and sudden. It was something that really affected me, and that's when we started getting the staff involved in Maitland Relay for Life," she said. "There's always someone you know that is affected by cancer."
Ms Cavanagh will join seven other stars - each teaming up with a dancer to create a show stopping performance at Cessnock Performing Arts Centre on June 29.
