Police said a BMW hit the parked vehicle and building on the corner of Stradbroke Avenue and Nathan Close just after 11pm.
It is alleged the driver then abandoned the vehicle and ran from the scene.
The incident attracted a heavy emergency service response as police said initial reports suggested that a gas meter had been taken out, but this was found not to be the case.
A Fire and Rescue NSW spokesperson said residents self-evacuated from the two units and had to organise alternate accommodation. Police said a wall to the building was deemed "structurally unstable".
Investigations into the incident are ongoing. Any information that may assist inquiries should be reported to Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
