It comes after Bourke Shire Council Council contact Maitland Council about about the availability of any unwanted, left over decorations from past years.
Council staff did an audit of decorations which had been taking up storage space at Maitland Gaol, and found a number of items.
"We had some decorations in storage over at the gaol which we haven't used in a long time," Maitland mayor Loretta Baker said.
"They've been in drought for a long time, and they want to bring cheer to their community for Christmas. It's the Christmas spirit. We hope it will lift everyone's spirits.
"They [Bourke Shire Council] would have other priorities and the business communities would be suffering. It's a small thing but they are the things that make the difference."
The decorations include eight to 10 giant baubles with lights and a red centre piece, nativity scene lights, an old Santa chair, smaller baubles with white tinsel and fairy lights.
Independent councillor Philip Penfold also moved an amendment for Maitland Council to pay for the transportation of the decorations to Bourke.
"It's good for this council to do what it can to support our drought-affected rural community, and this is a small way that we can assist," he said.

"It's good to see us helping these ... struggling communities during this time of drought ... It'll be one less burden on this community," Liberal councillor Mitchell Griffin added.
