Double demerit points apply for speeding, seat belt, motorcycle helmet and mobile phone offences from now until January 1 inclusive.
While students have finished school for the year, school zones are still in play until Friday - meaning drivers can receive up to a whopping 14 demerit points for speeding in a school zone.
Drivers caught using their phones will also be hit hard with 10 demerit points and a $344 fine or $457 in a school zone.
This will be the first double demerit period since the NSW Government introduced mobile detection cameras on December 1. However, warning letters relating to camera-detected offences will be issued for the first three months.
