The upgrade is expected to be completed by mid 2021.
The upgrade work will be done in stages to ensure the intersection remains in operation at all times.
However, at peak times when the work is fully underway traffic control measures will be in place to keep traffic flowing as smoothly as possible. The intersection upgrade is one of the major pieces of external infrastructure in the delivery of the new $470 million hospital.
Last month the outside scaffolding continued to be removed from the construction with more areas of the facade revealed. The accompanying picture gives a good indication of the progress.
Hunter New England Health has also released a progress video that is available on the Mercury website.

The structure for the arbour has been completed, with the briquettes due to be installed over the coming months, forming a key feature in the architectural design of the facility. The arbour will assist in providing a clear pedestrian pathway from the adjacent car park and patient drop off zone.
