The Hunter is among several parts of the state warned to prepare for potentially heavy rainfall as an east coast low drifts off the coast of Newcastle.
The Bureau of Meteorology has issued a severe weather warning for heavy rainfall and damaging winds for the Hunter as well as a moderate flood warning for Wollombi Brooke and the Lower Hunter.
Sandbags are available for Maitland residents from the local SES Unit's headquarters on Waterworks Road, Rutherford.
On Wednesday, a spokesperson for the Maitland SES Unit said the organisation has local volunteers on stand to respond to requests.
"We are currently operating an Incident Management Team out of Metford for local weather events unfolding, and also supporting Northern Rivers flooding since Sunday," the spokesperson said.
"The local NSW SES Maitland Unit has volunteers on standby to respond to requests for assistance as they are logged with the 132 500 number. We urge people to take their own precautions, stay safe, and never drive through floodwater."
While in the Cessnock LGA, Old North Road, Rothbury and Murrays Run Road, Laguna are both closed due to the flooding.
More to come.
