Five days after the Special Commission of Inquiry released its damning findings into the alleged cover-up of child sexual abuse, police have charged a Catholic priest in relation to alleged historical sexual and indecent assaults of a child in the Hunter Valley.

Detectives from Strike Force Georgiana visited notorious paedophile priest Vincent Ryan at his home in Sydney last month.
Investigators had received information involving a child and on May 7 spoke to Ryan about the alleged offences against the boy.
Police will allege the offences took place between 1985 and 1986.
The 76-year-old attended Ryde police station on May 17 and was served a future court attendance notice for sexual assault, six counts of commiting acts of indecency and attempted intercourse with a boy.
Ryan, who spent 14 years in jail for preying on 35 boys aged six to 14 years between 1972 and 1991, was released from Long Bay Jail in 2010.
Ryan will appear in Maitland Local Court on June 30.
Investigators encouraged victims of any indecent or sexual assault, no matter how long ago, to come forward.
