The 19-year-old was chosen to represent Australia in the Miss Cosmopolitan World competition, which was held on the weekend.
The event included a national costume section, swimwear, talent, and question and answer segment.
The talented teenager made it to the top eight finalists and was happy with the result.
“I got involved to build my self-confidence on stage,” she said.
“I enter a lot of pageants to promote myself as a model, [but] this is my first international.
“I’m so proud of my own personal achievements on this journey.”
The former Rutherford High School student was whisked away to Malaysia in September and has spent time touring the capital city.
“Every day we have spent visiting sponsors, going to events to promote the pageant and to photo shoots,” she said.
“We have travelled around Kuala Lumpur and visited so many places including Sunway Lagoon.
“Last week we travelled to Penang for a few days to visit sponsors and complete a separate press conference.”
While Ms Selkrig did not come home with the crown, she reached a high level of the competition and gained valuable international exposure for her modelling career.
“The best part of the trip has been making new friends,” she said.
For the moment, the teenager will hang up her heels and head back to work until the next competition.
