Maitland councillors have voted to name the lane after Lorraine Horder, a stalwart of Hunter sport who devoted four decades to the city’s swimming club, teaching kids to swim.
Mrs Horder died last December after a four-and-a-half year battle with pancreatic cancer.
Maitland Swimming Club supported the move to name a lane in honour of Mrs Horder after her daughter Jo-Anne made an application to council last month.
“Lorraine was a member of great value to the club and for the Maitland community for almost 40 years providing learn-to-swim and coaching in the life skills of swimming,” club president Trevor Wood wrote in his letter to council.
“Lorraine was a member, committee member, vice-president and life member and is sadly missed by all.”
A naming ceremony will take place at the aquatic centre on February 28.
