Reports of the odour in Maitland's western suburbs have been ongoing for more than two decades.
Ms Aitchison raised the issue in Parliament on Wednesday, when she lodged a notice of motion in the lower house.
"I will move that this house notes that the Rutherford Stink has been an ongoing problem for residents in the Maitland electorate," she told Parliament.
Ms Aitchison called on the government to act against polluters in Rutherford to stop odours in the area.
She also urged the government to fully investigate the possible health impacts of emissions that came from the area.
