The All 4 One Collective aims to address a growing need for safe, supportive environments for young people to meet like-minded peers and positive role models.
The group also aims to provide an environment where young people feel safe to ask questions, seek resources and gain an understanding of growing up.
In a statement provided to the Mercury, headspace Maitland said it had seen an instant response to the social support group.
Headspace Maitland will work with LGBTIQ groups from Newcastle and the Central Coast to engage young people in the area who wish to join.
Thirteen per cent of headspace Maitland’s client group identifies as bisexual, lesbian, gay, and “other sexuality” with about one per cent questioning their sexuality while up to eight per cent choose not to disclose their sexuality.
Headspace Maitland provides services for young people including free monthly sexual health clinic, access to male and female GPs, clinic nurses, counselling and psychology services, appointments with Centrelink, drug and alcohol counselling, midwifery services and support with accommodation for people at risk of homelessness.
All services are available in a culturally sensitive manner and a wide variety of printed resources are available on many topics.
The group meets on the last Thursday of every month from 4pm until 5pm at 73 Elgin Street, Maitland.
Headspace Maitland is led by Samaritans Foundation and supports hundreds of young people each year.
