Baiada Poultry has responded to a report from the Australasian Meat Industry Workers Union that heavily criticised the company for its response to a chlorine gas leak at its Beresfield site on March 7.

The report took aim at the company’s response to the incident, which resulted in 40 people being taken to hospital.
A Baiada spokesman said the company disagreed with many of the conclusions outlined in the report.
“The safety and welfare of our employees and plant staff is our paramount priority,” he said in a written statement.
“We are currently investigating all matters in relation to the incident and finalising our own detailed report.
“We look forward to meeting with the AMIEU to discuss our respective reports' findings and to working collaboratively with them in the future."
