All fun aside it is also time to check smoke alarms. With 2016 marking the 10th anniversary of the NSW smoke alarm legislation, this year firies have asked residents not to change their smoke alarm batteries but to replace their entire alarm.
Smoke alarms can be affected by dust, insects, humidity and age. Manufacturers advise replacing them every 10 years to ensure they remain in working order. Fire and Rescue NSW want residents to replace old smoke alarms with new photoelectric alarms. For more details about alarms and where to put them in the home visit www.fire.nsw.gov.au
