Cr Meskauskas is reeling after making several attempts to contact the State Government body calling on it to mow overgrown median strips and roundabouts on the busy New England Highway.
Between 60,000 and 70,000 people are tipped to visit the city this weekend for the annual festival of steam.
Cr Meskauskas said roundabouts and median strips between Green Hills and Rutherford are a disgrace and an embarrassment.
“Some of the growth is a metre high and it’s not a good look with Steamfest on this weekend,” he said.
“Council has done its bit with parks and open space looking great but the median strips look like a jungle. It’s unacceptable.”
A Roads and Maritime Service spokesman said grass on the New England Highway between Wallis Creek and Church Street, Maitland will be cut this week.
