Maitland City Council approved the development application for the 36.8 hectare site on Avondale Drive at a meeting this week.

The site is located on the eastern side of Government Road and is bounded by Somerset Park to the south and a newly established subdivision known as Notting Hill to the west.
The proposal is for 158 lots to be allocated for defence personnel while the remainder will be sold to the general public.
Cr Philip Penfold moved the council approve the development and suggested the council contact the Roads and Maritime Service to “take action” at the intersection of Government and Raymond Terrace roads which he described as dangerous.
“My view is that work is needed there now. There are no turning lanes and the speed limit is 80. It needs traffic lights,” Cr Penfold said.
