Thousands packed into historic grounds for the annual event on Sunday, hoping to catch a glimpse of this year’s guests of honour – the 73rd Regiment of Foot.
The regiment, better known as the Redcoats, were briefly stationed in Newcastle in 1813 while on their mission to help Governor Lachlan Macquarie take control of NSW following the Rum Rebellion in 1808.
Guests also watched live blacksmithing, a historic fashion parade, vintage machinery, sheep shearing and lectures on Australia’s colonial traditions.
