Millers Forest and Duckenfield residents will be better prepared in times of flood thanks to the launch of a flood response plan developed in partnership with Millers Forest Progress Association and the SES.

It has been developed to assess the needs of rural communities that become isolated by floodwater during major floods. NSW SES Hunter Region Controller Alexandra McFadden said the SES has limited access to assist these households during this time as identified in the April 2015 floods.
“We developed a plan that aims to assist households to be self-sufficient for at least seven days,” Ms McFadden said. The plan includes an asset register to identify who has flood refuge for cattle, generators and UHF radios. It also nominates flood wardens to contact those vulnerable, the elderly and the sick.
