Red Cross Blood Donor Service spokesperson Jemma Falkenmire said centres at Maitland and Newcastle needed about 200 donors during the October long weekend to keep up with forecast demand.
“The component of blood that’s used to treat cancer patients has a short shelf-life of only five days,” she said.
