For two local blokes, it took a good cause such as prostate cancer research to lose their lip rugs.
In a reverse Movember initiative, a bowls day was organised for Hinton’s Greg Duncan to shave his ‘stache for the first time in 37 years.
The bowls day and shave took place on Sunday at Telarah Bowling Club.
Funds were raised through raffles, the bowls and a sausage sizzle to support the Hunter Prostate Cancer Alliance.
It would have been a daunting operation to go alone, but luckily a friend Michael O’Neill joined in on the day to have his flavour saver of more than 40 years trimmed back.
Mr O’Neill’s decision also gave a further boost to their cause – an extra $117 was dropped into a bucket after he committed to taking part in the shave.
All up, more than $1555 was raised from the day.
The men both said it felt good to have a change after such a long time, and were glad to be supporting such a worthwhile cause.
