Approval for the lots, on Robert Road, comes just days after Fairfax Media reported that an estimated 3500 building blocks are proposed for the suburb.
The installation of traffic lights and a new intersection near Airds of Lochinvar is imminent, paving the way for the additional lots.
The lights will be installed by the Roads and Maritime Service following a State Government grant of $11 million to the city as part of the State’s Housing Acceleration Fund.
A resident who spoke in public access, Alan Mayall, said he was not against the proposal but did have some concerns about storm water and traffic management including road widening.
Land at Lochinvar was rezoned and identified as an urban release area in 2011.
A council report said widening of Robert and Christopher roads had been identified in a development control plan to cater for increased traffic flow through existing streets as a direct result of the development.
The report also said that some minor works are required at the intersection of Robert Road and the New England Highway to formalise the left turn into Robert Road.
The company Christopher Road Pty Ltd proposes to build 97 lots of varying size as well as a drainage reserve. It is planned to be constructed in five stages.
The report said the subdivision represents the initial release of development within the Lochinvar Urban Release Area and provides the lead-in-site for infrastructure delivery to provide full reticulated systems to the southern side of the New England Highway.
