The shelter, which can house hundreds of animals, has urged members of the community to volunteer as foster carers or adopt the cats and kittens filling its enclosures.
“Cats get out more in the warmer months, they’re more active,” Centre manager Jodie Eldridge said.
“There are lots of adults, lots of kittens too.”
She urged anyone looking for a pet after Christmas to visit the shelter as soon as possible as strays and surrenders continued to present at the facility in Rutherford.
Ms Eldridge said people could volunteer as a kitten foster parent at rspcansw.org.au.
“It’s a great option for people who don’t want to adopt permanently,” she said.
“We’re always looking for more [volunteers].”
The call for help comes after Fairfax Media reported a massive kitten breeding season had filled independent rescue services Hunter Valley Cat Haven and Peggy’s Promise.
