Police said the Telarah youth stole cash, wallets, clothes, sunglasses and other items from cars in and around Regiment Road on Sunday night and early Monday morning.
A tip from a local resident led police to find the 16-year-old, who was charged with 11 counts of steal from motor vehicle and one count of steal from dwelling.
The teen was granted conditional bail in a Hunter Children’s Court on Tuesday and will appear in court again on February 17.
Central Hunter Detective Acting Inspector Jerry Bowden said a number of the cars that were stolen from were unlocked.
“We stress for drivers to lock their vehicles,” he said.
“An enormous percentage of theft from motor vehicles occur on vehicles that are unlocked.”
