As part of Maitland City Council’s cultural program, a group of artists have settled into the city’s countless cafes to practice their craft.
“The program is called Verses,” Maitland City Council librarian Keryl Collard said.
“They will be writing poetry and enriching the cultural life of the cafe.”
Verses is a pilot program and will operate for three to six months.
“We want to cultivate a vibrant culture and build on the existing strengths of Maitland as a cultural hub,” she said.
“Poetry is a form of creative expression, it speaks to us all.”
Residents are encouraged to engage with the impressive line-up of poets, which includes National Poetry Slam finalist Gillian Swain and published spoken word poet Pip Sheehan. Further details can be found at www.maitland.nsw.gov.au
