The train has been nicknamed the ‘Tin Hare’ and is one of 10 CPH railmotors still running in NSW. The train’s first journey can be tracked back to 1923.
“The idea behind the day is to bring back some wonderful memories for the residents of Maitland, Kurri and Cessnock who all have fond memories of riding on the rail motors back in the ’50s, ’60s and ’70s,” Kurri Kurri Public School spokesperson Davina Dawes said.
The school wanted to hold a fundraiser that was a little different.
The day aims to complement the growing education of the students, who have been learning what life was like during the 1960s and ’70s for the past few years in relation to the Kurri Kurri Nostalgia Festival.
Funds from the day will help support development within the local school.
The train will depart at 9.30am from Maitland Station. Tickets are $70 for adults, $50 for children, kids under 5 are free and a family pass (two adults and two children) is $220. The ticket includes a morning tea and a buffet lunch at Neath Hotel. The day should wrap up at 3.30pm.
There will be a courtesy bus running from Maitland Station on the day.
