And, their festivities on May 5 will feature a little bit of magic – Possum Magic that is.
To the delight of organisers, much-loved Australian children’s book author Mem Fox AM will be the guest speaker at the commemoration.
Event organiser Joe Gollan attended the preschool when it was known as Maitland Nursery School, and passed the love of centre on to his two children.
He said Ms Fox’s work promoted kindness and tolerance to children.
“I think as a parent most of us would really strive for that sort of thing to be instilled in our kids,” he said.
“She’s not just a great children’s author but she’s also just a really decent person.
“She has spoken at length in Australia, and all around the world, about how important literacy is for children, and adults.
“She was an easy choice, but a very lucky outcome for the preschool.”
Those interested in attending are encouraged to book their seats soon to avoid disappointment.
There will be tables of 10, cost is $125 per person, and all proceeds will go to Maitland Communtiy Preschool.
“It’s obviously for a terrific cause and a great chance to raise some money for one of Maitland’s pillars in the community,” Mr Gollan said.
“But also a great way of celebrating something that really deserves to be celebrated – 70 years of quality educating and nurturing of our small kids is something well and truly worth celebrating.”
