Police were patrolling Racecourse Road about midnight on January 27 when they saw three different coloured explosions which appeared to be fireworks.
Officers traced the origin of the explosions down to Mackay Close, where they spotted two cars.
Police spoke to the male occupant of a silver Nissan and subsequently searched the car.
No fireworks were uncovered but the man allegedly told police he had let some off.
In NSW, it is illegal to use fireworks without a licence.
The man, 28, also identified himself as a retained firefighter.
No charges were laid. Police are conducting further inquiries into the incident.
