The man was delivering mail on a Honda motorcycle in Herron Close about 12.30pm, when he rode across lawn and onto a driveway.
Police said a car was backing out of the driveway and the driver did not see the motorbike rider.
The rider, a 58-year-old East Maitland man, came away from the minor prang with a swollen knee.
The collision was one of a spate of incidents that occurred across Maitland roads on Tuesday.
A ute flipped onto its roof on the New England Highway, East Maitland about 8.30am and a car also collided with a pole at Louth Park about 6am.
Police said wet roads were a factor in some of the incidents, after the first downpour to hit the Lower Hunter in months.
