That’s the concept behind the 30 Minutes Arts Festival in Central Maitland this Sunday.
The free micro festival, set to take place in the laneway next to the Bikesmith Cafe on High Street, is a series of 30 minute long workshops, performances and demonstrations across a variety of art forms.
Every 30 minutes, a bell will ring and festival goers will be invited to try a new creative activity.
Festival organiser Helen Hopcroft said it was a great chance for people to try something new.
“If you’ve never painted before, or always wanted to write poetry, here’s your opportunity,” she said.
The workshops are suitable for beginners of all ages, and no previous experience or equipment is required. But if you’re planning to try some of the messier art form – such as painting or pottery – old clothes are recommended.
“It’s a fast, friendly, free event,” Ms Hopcroft said. “All you need is the willingness to give something new a go”.
The destival will be divided into two sections, with hands-on workshops taking place on tables along the laneway and performances and group workshops in the car park at the rear.
Festival goers will have a chance to try workshops in puppetry, pottery, painting, drawing, drama, mime, collage, drawing, music, poetry, creative writing, leather craft, origami, crochet and various forms of paper-based craft.
They’ll also get to see a puppet play by Frank’s Fantastic Fairy Tale Theatre, a portable theatre based in Maitland; A Light to Hear By, a new piece of street theatre by Brent Shaub; Beat It, a drum circle led by Mai-Wel drummers; and Creative 180, a novel creative thinking game devised by Matt Petherbridge.
The event runs from 10am to 1pm. See the Facebook page for more details.
