Thursday’s burn is being completed by National Parks and Wildlife Services at Old Maitland Road, Abermain.
The burn, which began at 10.30am, was progressing nicely in the afternoon, Lower Hunter RFS operational officer Guy Baddock said.
Mr Baddock said residents could expect to see smoke into the evening on Thursday.
It’s one of several hazard reduction burns planned around the Hunter in April. Operations are also scheduled for Karuah, Medowie, Pokolbin and Black Hill in the next week, weather permitting.
Hazard reduction burns are conducted by firefighters in cooler months to reduce the risk of fires in the bushfire danger period over summer.
