On Tuesday, Bishop Bill Wright opened and blessed the new St Nicholas Early Education Centre at Lochinvar.
A smoking ceremony and Welcome to Country led by Johnny Robinson and students from St Joseph’s Catholic College was a special addition to the event.
The St Patrick’s school choir provided musical entertainment while Bishop Wright blessed the location.
The day care centre is the largest in the area, with places for 124 children.
There are now five St Nicholas early education day care centres.
There are ongoing plans to open another six Hunter early education centres in the next two years, and to expand the number centres in the diocese to 20 within five years.
General operations manager of St Nicholas Early Education Kerri Armstrong said the team aimed to create infrastructure that was built on early childhood best practice.
“St Nicholas prides itself in providing enriched learning platforms for the very young in our community,” she said.
“This culture of inspired early education does not just evolve itself.
“It has taken the dedication of a team of committed professionals to bring this to life.”
