Groups and organisations around Maitland have benefited from a splashing of more than $225,000 worth of community grants by East Maitland Bowling Club.

The club hosted a special presentation night on June 5 where they presented the grants to 98 local community organisations as part of the ClubGRANTS Scheme.
The ClubGRANTS scheme was established in 1998 to ensure that larger Registered Clubs in NSW contribute to the provision of front-line services to their local communities; and to ensure that the disadvantaged in the community are better positioned to benefit from the substantial contributions made by those clubs.
This year $104,000 in category one donations were made to 40 organisations such as Carrie’s Place, Hunter Breast Cancer Foundation, Hunter River Community School, Camp Quality, Maitland Community Men’s Shed, The Smith Family, Mai Wel, Mark Hughes Foundation and Friends of Palliative Care.
Over $121,000 in category two donations were made to support 58 local schools and sporting groups including swimming, cricket, football, squash, and netball clubs.
President of East Maitland Bowling Club Mr Bill Hopkins OAM said the club was proud to be able to assist so many worthy locals.
“Our presentation night is more than just a cheque-giving exercise,’ he said.
“It’s a chance for us to meet and genuinely help some of the people who invest their time and effort into making our community a better place.”
Mr Hopkins said he hoped the grants would allow the wide range of groups to continue their work helping the community.
“East Maitland Bowling Club is proud to offer financial support to a variety of organisations and community groups in our region.”
