A decision on whether to allow a Brethren church at Chisholm’s Harvest estate was delayed at the last meeting amid concerns over its proposed Sunday morning starting time.
The proposed hours of operation included Sunday communion starting at 6am.
Council officers said further discussions have been held with the applicant and owners of the site regarding the communion service and the owners have responded saying: “The Lord’s Supper, or Holy Communion, is central to our lives”. They went on to say that the 6am time is a non-negotiable universal custom based on their scripture.
Council planners have recommended the development for approval subject to some consent conditions.
