The 52-year-old man was using the power tool to cut a pipe at an Ausgrid construction site about 11.30am Monday when the machine kicked back and hit him in the face.
The man suffered severe, but non-life threatening injuries to his mandible (jaw bone).
He was treated by paramedics at the scene before being taken from the Weakleys Drive work site to the John Hunter Hospital by ambulance.
